The Catholic Association of Teachers, Schools and Colleges

Formed in 1996 by the amalgamation of the Catholic Teachers Federation of England and Wales and the Association of Catholic Schools and Colleges (formerly the Conference of Catholic Secondary Schools), the Catholic Association of Teachers, Schools and Colleges (CATSC) brings together the best features of the long tradition of both organisations.

With over 1000 schools in membership, plus a number of individual members, the Association works to support and safeguard the interests of Catholic education and those working in it. Membership ranges from Nursery Schools to Sixth Form Colleges and includes both state and independent schools. The Association also has links with other Catholic organisations including: the Catholic Education Service, Birmingham's Catholic Partnership, and other partnerships, Mission Together and the Catholic Fund for Overseas Development (CAFOD).

CATSC also seeks to promote closer ties with Catholic schools and teachers on the international front through our active membership of the World Union of Catholic Teachers, and through ADDEC, our fraternal organisation in France.

Conferences and training days covering all sectors are arranged at both national and local level to explore the major issues affecting Catholic education. The Association is also active in responding to government consultations and initiatives, ensuring that the distinctive voice of catholic teachers and schools is heard in the national education debate.

A number of commercial partnerships have been established to provide tangible financial benefits to members. News of the Association is circulated through the regular newsletter "The Vine", and views, issues and reports are discussed in the journal ''Networking" which is produced in association with CATSC. The Research Committee is working on several studies which both celebrate and endorse the success of our distinctive Catholic education sector. The Association also operates a Helpline, which was set up in response to the real needs of members. It offers confidential assistance and support to colleagues in specific situations and works in conjunction with the professional Associations and Unions.
