Andrew Sowerby became President of the Association at the AGM in June 2009, having served as Vice presidenjt since June 2008..
Born in Birmingham in 1954, Andrew comes from a family of teachers, his father and grandfather both being Headteachers. Educated at St Helen's Primary school, Hoyland, and Pope Pius Xth school, Wath upon Dearne, Andrew attended Mexborough VIth Form College before going to De La Salle College, Manchester.
In 1982 Andrew moved from secondary teaching to Primary, and became Head of Corpus Christi primary school, Miles Platting in 1985, and then was appointed in 2001 as Headteacher of Corpus Christi, Chadderton, Oldham.
In his spare time, Andrew enjoys umpiring cricket, and is a long suffering supporter of Oldham Athletic. His fell walking challenges include the Pennine Way, and the West Highland Way. He is a member of the Catenians, and has been President of his local Circle. He is happily married to Maria whom he met at the first disco at Sedgeley Park College where Maria was training to be a teacher! They have three grown up children, one of whom has embarked on her own career as a primary teacher. |

Angela Whelan
Past President
Angela is Headteacher at St Paul's Girl's School, Edgbaston, Birmingham. She served as President of CATSC from 2007-2009
Angela provided the following personal profile: "I started my teaching career in Bishop Ullathorne school in Coventry, where I was introduced to the CTF. In 1990 I became the President of the Coventry Catholic Teachers Association.
I later taught at Cardinal Griffin, Cannock, and St Cuthbert’s, Rochdale, where I introduced CTF/CATSC to my colleagues, and they were encouraged to attend our annual Conference.
Over the years I have had the opportunity to meet many teachers, committed to Catholic Education. CATSC has provided me with a source of comparative resources. It has given me a time of prayer, and a time to reflect spiritually and intellectually, and it has helped to challenge who I am."

As well as his role of Treasurer, John lectures on the MA in Catholic School Leadership course at St Mary’s University College, Strawberry Hill. He is a keen Catenian, and President of his Circle in 2008-9 and is a Knight of the Holy Sepulchre.
